I am a photographer with a solid background in all aspects of photographic production including:
Conceptual development
Client relations and budget management
Booking and direction of talent and stylists
Lighting, both in the studio and on location
Image capture, processing and retouching
I specialize in gorgeously lit, narrative fashion/life-style, environmental portraiture and creative still life.
From 2006 to 2010 I was part of a creative team working part-time at Midwest CBK, Union City, Tennessee. In addition to shooting in their fast-paced studio, I also suggested and then implemented the operation to bring their studios in-house and their transition from analog to digital. I also managed and budgeted the travel and housing logistics for our crew of 8 to 10 people while on the road.
My great grandfather, William Bentley, operated a photography business out of his home in Medford, Massachusetts, in the 1920’s. His motto, “Pictures Pay the Bentley Way”, adorned his stationary.
I have survived a revolution: I know how to use a large format view camera, how to expose and process chrome film to yield gorgeous skin tones, and how to print both color and black and white photographs in the dark room. This strong background in film has translated well into digital processes.
My photographs have loomed over Times Square.
I told a 20-year old Heath Ledger that he had a smile like the Joker’s.
When my subject sees their beauty in a way they did not know existed, I am rewarded as well.
I like to bike along the Hudson, sweat at Bikram yoga, dance to old school salsa and relax with friends on Long Island, Maine.
I have been a professional photographer my entire adult life. I am based in New York City.
